"Love Island USA S8 Premiere Looming Despite Racial Slur Incident"
The sun-kissed shores of Fiji and the tacky tropics of reality TV might seem like a recipe for disaster, but Love Island USA is soldiering on despite another season opener bombshell. For the second consecutive year, a contestant has been axed from the show due to using racial slurs in resurfaced videos.
This time around, it's Vasana Montgomery who got the boot ahead of Tuesday's Season 8 premiere. The drama unfolded when two videos featuring Montgomery surfaced online, showcasing her using the n-word in a pair of cringe-worthy clips.
In one video, Montgomery is hanging out at an arcade, chatting about someone playing a shooting game, and decides to drop the N-bomb with "Knock knock, n—-." In another, she's getting down to 6ix9ine's verse on A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie's track "Swervin," rapping along like nobody's watching.
The problematic videos were originally uploaded to private accounts, so they didn't make the cut during Peacock's casting process. However, once they went viral, Montgomery got the heave-ho from the Love Island villa in Fiji.
This isn't a one-time fluke either – we've seen this script play out before. Last season, Yulissa Escobar was tossed after using the same slur during a podcast appearance that went viral. Cierra Ortega also got the axe for spewing racial slurs towards Asian people.
Despite these incidents and the potential for more to come, Love Island USA is gearing up for its Season 8 premiere in just two days. The show will continue to air new episodes daily throughout the premiere week before switching to a standard schedule of one episode per day, except for Wednesdays.
For now, fans can look forward to an all-new cast of contestants, including Aniyah Harvey, Brihatz Track, Kenzie Anis, Melanie Elisa, Soo Trini, Vasana Vibes, Zach Georgio, Bryce Alakai, Gvassoncelosv, KC Thagreat, Sean Parme, and Sincere Rhea.
With its promise of sun-soaked hookups, drama-filled recouplings, and the occasional racial slur controversy, Love Island USA is back to business as usual. Tune in Tuesday, June 2, for the Season 8 premiere – but don't say we didn't warn you.
